(This is ideal for drivers operating 4WDrives for work for pleasure. Includes basic introductions to

Outcomes
 
At the completion of the course it is expected that all drivers will demonstrate -
 
·         Ability to identify and avoid hazards on the road
·         Apply emergency braking techniques on and off road
·         Apply defensive driving techniques
·         An understanding of the effects of Alcohol / Drugs / Fatigue
·         An understanding of correct tyre pressures and when to alter them
·         Apply correct four wheel drive techniques off road
·         Be able to safely operate recovery equipment

Drivers will use their own vehicle during the practical components of this course (must be registered and subject to basic safety checks). All relevant road laws must be adhered to at all times.


NEW 2 DAY
4WD COURSE

DSA 2 Day Defensive 4WD Course - PMASUP236A / 3 STAR

 (This course is ideal for drivers that need are new to 4WD operation or want to gain confidence in a variety of conditions and recovery equipment. Complies with BHP Minex 2 and 3 STAR Licence *may require an additional day - please contact DSA for information)

 

Introduction

 

This new course has been designed to provide a more extensive amount of skills and knowledge to safely operate a 4WD and is designed to comply with requirements outlined by many organisations including BHP Minerals Exploration and Western Australian Government Departments (Goldfields/Esperance areas).

 

The course can include practical driving experience in -

 

·         Gravel Roads (Smooth)

·         Sandy / Desert Roads (Where possible)

·         Sealed Roads (Wet)

·         Off Road Operation (Hi-Low Range Operation over a variety of terrain)

·         Basic vehicle recovery

 

The course also includes practical experience with

 

·         Vehicle Pre-Start Checks

·         Basic Maintenance

·         Road Side Repairs (including tyre changing)

·         Battery Jump Start

·         Vehicle Loading

·         Trip Planning and Management

·         Vehicle Monitoring

·         Communications and Emergency Procedures

 

Theory components can include (in addition to the standard Defensive 4WD Courses)

 

·         Night Driving

·         Vehicle Dynamics

·         Trailer Operation

·         Fault Reporting

 

The main difference with this course compared to the one day course – is the available time to cover items in detail and allow practical demonstrations. It is suggested that this course is a minimum for drivers new to 4WD vehicles and/or operating in remote areas.
