EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE GOES OFF ROAD

In August the Explosive Ordnance Section of JLU(SQ) undertook what can only be described as an enjoyable yet highly educational day of 4x4 driver training at the Mount Cotton Driver Training Centre just south of Brisbane.

The training was conducted by Driver Skills Australia, a professional civilian training provider. All members gained from the activity, even those with extensive 4x4 driving experience, while those with little or no experience were amazed by just where they were able to take the vehicles.

The training was invaluable to the Explosive Ordnance Section as they are required as part of their duties to respond to discoveries of Unexploded Explosive Ordnance wherever they are found.

With many of the old World War II era training/ live firing areas in South Queensland being in remote and rugged terrain a sound knowledge of just what our 4x4 can and can’t do is essential.

From the knowledge and experience gained during the training the section has already changed and added to the self recovery equipment carried by it’s 4x4.
