What is a defensive driving course?

Classroom session - Eastern Creek 2010A defensive driving course is designed to provide drivers with information and practical training to become a safer road user.

It is suitable for all drivers and is popular with organisations who have large fleets of vehicles, young drivers and government departments.

A DSA defensive driving course includes a comprehensive multi-media presentation.

Content includes understanding human factors, defensive driving techniques, managing and reducing risks associated with dirivng and vehicle performance and systems.

There is plenty of time for group discussion and interaction to insure drivers can relate to the information being presented.

Brake and Avoid - Mt Cotton, QLDThe second component is outside and all hands-on. This includes a brief on vehicle maintenance, seating position and steering technique

This is followed by a variety of simulated emergency braking exercises. These are desinged specifically so that drivers can safely explore the effects of speed, road surface and drifferent braking systems when faced with an emergency.

The majortiy of drivers, young and old, have never practiced stopping in an emergency and as a result can not apprecaite why travelling too fast for the conditions is so dangerous.
